Hospitality House Fathering Workshop

Fathers are needed to volunteer for this landmark event.

Our kids need their dads involved in their lives.

Our kids would benefit greatly from having their Dad’s presence improved in their lives. Please contact George Rowley to get involved, 612-522-4485.

OBJECTIVE:

To support our kids by exposing and encouraging their Dads to Christian Fathering principles. To work with local ministries to inspire and equip Dads to be better fathers.

“Let us arise and build” (Neh 2:17), let us strengthen the families.

DETAILS:

  • Who: Dads. Offer to HH members first, then to local community. Target number 100 Dads.

  • When: To be announced.

  • Where: Hospitality House – Hosted by HH as an outreach event.

  • Why: Teach Christian fathering skills, strengthen families, address family issues, bring awareness of the many Christian ministries available. Support HH kids, their families, & community.

WHY?

Need for the Fathering Workshop: Based on experience, the need to get the fathers involved or to enhance the fathers involvement in our kids life is crucial. Consider the following information summarized by Life Coaches.

“The need is urgent. While many women do heroic work raising children by themselves, the relationship between father absence and the social consequences of poverty, school dropouts, drug abuse, criminal behavior, and teenage pregnancy has been noted by an increasing number researchers. 85% of prisoners, 82% of pregnant teenagers, and 78% of high school dropouts come from father absent homes (Washington Post).

  1. There are 180 communities in the USA where 90% of all families are without fathers. (Tamar Lewin, N.Y. Times, 6/18/95)

  2. Nationally, for those born in 1980, 70% of white children and 94% of black children are projected to live with only one parent before they reach age 18. (Life Without Father by David Popenoe)

  3. Children with absent fathers have dramatically more poverty, crime, truancy and repeat the cycle of father absence.

  4. The most significant predictor of violent crime is the absence of a father in the home. (US Department of Justice, 1988 Study)

  5. 79% of Americans recognize that the country's most significant problem is the absence of fathers from the home. (Gallup Poll, 1996)

  6. Father absence is not only the major factor in criminal activity but accounts for all of the differential rates of criminal activity across racial and economic classes. (William A. Galston & Elaine Civilla Kamack)

  7. Children born into homes with absentee fathers are three times more likely to themselves have a child out of wedlock. (McLanchan & Sandefur)
