Born in Harrisburg, AK, Jimmy Stanback moved to Minneapolis when he was 1 year old. At the age of 6 Jimmy began to spend time at "the hub" (Hospitality House). His favorite programs then were the Boy Scouts and camping. Most of the HH staff at the time still have a story or two about something he said or did!

The high-rolling lifestyle of the area gang-life became too much of a temptation for Jimmy at the age of 12. His teen years were spent separated from God, HH, and the law as he made a name for himself in one of the Northside gangs. By the time he was 21 he had a fourth child on the way. It was that baby that finally brought him back to God.

The baby's mother went into labor suddenly and Jimmy rushed her to the hospital. Having barely arrived, Jimmy realized that the birth was happening right before his eyes and there were no doctors around. Jimmy yelled for help, only to watch the doctors fail to bring life to his baby. Jimmy began to pray. The story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead rushed to his mind as he admitted to God he was failing Him. He asked God bring his baby back like Lazarus, and that he would get his life in order. Miraculously his daughter's heart began to beat. Later the doctor's would tell Jimmy that they doubted she could have a normal life. Mystaya Joy Stanback is a healthy and happy young girl today. Her mother, Meghan Klein Stanback is now Jimmy's wife.

Jimmy did not ignore the promise he made to God. He drove to Hospitality House and asked Donnie Latimer to pray with him to recommit his life to Christ. But then he stopped, and realized he wanted to take care of one order of business before that. He left HH and went to each drug house he was in charge of as a gang member. He shut them down immediately.

As Jimmy puts it HH is "the only church I ever knew." He returned to Donnie and prayed with him that day, then became an active volunteer. When his brother was killed a year later, Jimmy asked HH workers to attend the funeral. That day 60 young gang members were saved. Jimmy is now a valued member of staff and serves a variety of age groups of young people.

Note: Jimmy is open to giving their powerful testimonies to your group. Please contact Patricia Welch (612) 522-4485 for more information.
